How the City by the Golden Gate Fared During the Platinum Era
So much has changed during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, yet so much has remained the same
The Queen, having been on the British throne for 70 years in 2022, has seen a lot of change. There was no Internet, we hadn’t been to the moon yet, the Baby Boom was just about to start
Apart from the Presidio being a going military base, there was no BART, the Potrero Shipyards, which would be sold to the City for $1 in 1982, was still building ships. The U.S. Interstate System still had 2 years before coming into being (I-380 was only built in 1964). Street names are different of course (no JFK, MLK or Cesar Chavez), streets themselves took different paths if they existed, and entire neighborhoods, didn’t exist, like Diamond Heights for example.
